MasterPiece Arms Introduces MPA DS40 Travis Tomasie Competition Pistol
MasterPiece Arms (MPA), manufacturer of precision pistol, bolt-action rifles and chassis systems, unveiled its newest competition pistol, based on the preferences of MPA Pro Shooter Travis Tomasie.
The MPA DS40 Travis Tomasie Competition Pistol will be chambered in 40 S&W to meet Major Power Factor scoring under the rules of the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA) and the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC).
“We were excited to work with Travis to create this competition-ready pistol,” said Phil Cashin, owner and president of MPA. “Travis’s years of experience and knowledge in the competitive shooting marketplace helped us hone in on what features matter most when it comes to competition. We’ve created something really special here that we think any competitor in USPSA or IPSC will find value in.”
The specific features for this USPSA Limited Division pistol include aggressive texturing on the MPA Grip, which helps shooters keep a firm grip on their pistol during fast-paced competitions. It also includes traditional dovetail cuts for the adjustable front and rear sights, a Bomar-style rear sight, competition magwell (for 140mm mags or larger — incorporates a self-centering radius funnel design), and two MBX 140mm 40-cal magazines.
“I’m proud to have partnered with MPA in developing a truly remarkable competition pistol. Built to my specifications and combining superior components with craftsmanship, the DS40 TT Comp Pistol is ready to race right out of the box,” Tomasie said.
As with all DS Pistols, all parts of the MPA DS40 TT Comp Pistol are machined in the USA from barstock and billet and include no MIM, castings, or forgings. The components machined by MPA include the full-length-steel light rail 5-inch frame, slide, MPA 416R stainless bull barrel, stainless-steel beavertail/grip safety, stainless-steel ambidextrous safety, stainless-steel slide stop, firing pin stop, ejector, magwell, and a 7075 black-anodized aluminum grip.
The DS40 TT Comp Pistol also includes a Koenig hammer, sear, and disconnector, Wolff Springs, custom machined aluminum trigger shoe, and a one-piece stainless guide rod. It features a 2.5-pound trigger pull. The pistol will ship with a pull weight between 2.375 to 2.625 pounds and will relax to 2 pounds after the pistol is broken in. The FGW slide serrations with slide lightening cuts create less reciprocating mass. Each pistol is hand-built, including lapping the slide/frame interface, and comes competition-ready in a custom MPA single pistol case with a lifetime warranty.
Tomasie is a multiple world and national IPSC and USPSA champion. He is an Army Veteran and former member of the US Army Marksmanship Unit. He has been featured and prominently starred on TV’s “MythBusters,” “Shooting USA,” “Gallery of Guns,” and a host of other shows.
Smith & Wesson Launches New M&P10mm M2.0
Smith & Wesson re-enters the world of semi-auto 10mm handguns with its new M&P M2.0 line of handguns chambered in 10mm Auto. The pistol comes with enhanced features, such as an optics-cut slide with the C.O.R.E. system that enables users to mount a variety of popular optics. This handgun is designed to carry a 15+1 rounds, ships with two magazines, and features Smith & Wesson’s brand-new M2.0 flat-face trigger design. MSRP on the M&P10mm pistol is $654 to $665.
John Myles, Smith & Wesson’s senior new product manager, said, “Having not made a 10mm semi-automatic hand gun since the 1990s, it’s a pleasure to re-enter that space with the M&P10mm M2.0 pistol. The 10mm caliber has its own following, and our customers have been asking us to bring one back. We are excited to launch this product, using the M&P45 M2.0 as a building block to support existing aftermarket accessories that are readily available, as well as adding new enhanced features like the optics-ready slide and the new M2.0 flat-face trigger.”
These new handguns are available with or without an ambidextrous manual thumb safety. Smith & Wesson will offer a shorter 4-inch-barrel configuration of the handgun to allow for quicker clearance of a holster or a slightly longer 4.6-inch configuration to provide for a longer sight radius to optimize the accuracy of the barrel’s 1-in-10 twist rate. The M&P10mm M2.0 comes with the familiar 18-degree grip angle, four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts, and enhanced grip texture to help manage recoil.
Birchwood Casey Introduces the New Bore Weevil 2.0
Birchwood Casey is now offering the second iteration of its Bore Weevil retractable cleaning system for long guns and handguns. The new Bore Weevil 2.0 continues the basic operation of the original Bore Weevil with its integrated and fully retractable pull-through tether and coupler system. The spooled tether retracts into the Bore Weevil 2.0 housing, which provides grip and pull leverage when dealing with snug cleaning patches and is sized to stow in a range bag, on-the-go gun toolbox, or day pack. The retraction system is managed by a thumb lever that locks the tether to the desired length for cleaning and releases the tether for automatic retraction and storage. Three quick-attach couplers are included with the Bore Weevil 2.0. Each coupler accepts common 8-32 thread cleaning attachments. The new Bore Weevil 2.0 is $15.
Mossberg Expands Pistol Line with MC2sc Optics-Ready Micro-Compact
Mossberg has expanded its MC2 handgun lineup with a new micro-compact 9mm, the MC2sc. With its double-stack magazines, the compact-profile MC2sc offers increased capacity but is comfortably sized for concealed carry with an overall length of 6.25 inches, height of 4.30 inches, and 1.10-inch width. The MC2sc also features an optics-ready slide for ease of mounting micro red-dot sights. MSRPs are $556.
Available in two frame variants (standard and cross-bolt safety) and with optional TruGlo Tritium Pro Night sights, each MC2sc comes equipped with both an 11-round flush and 14-round extended magazine.
Constructed of glass-reinforced polymer, MC2sc frames feature high tensile strength and stiffness combined with impact and chemical resistance. The slides are 416 stainless steel and feature a black DLC (Diamond-Like Coating). For positive manipulation, the slides have angled front and rear serrations, and integrated into the slide is a removable plate, which allows for direct mounting of optics (Shield RSMC footprint). And unlike competitive products, the user is not required to pull the trigger to disassemble the MC2sc for routine cleaning or maintenance with Mossberg’s Safe Takedown System.
This micro-compact features a 3.4-inch stainless-steel barrel with cut-broached rifling, 1:16 twist rate, and black DLC finish. The ergonomic grip is angled at 18 degrees, points like a 1911, has an added palm swell, and features Mossberg’s signature aggressive texturing for a positive, comfortable grip. MC2sc pistols have a reversible magazine release and, on select models, a reversible cross-bolt safety. Other standard features include dovetail-mounted low-profile white three-dot sights that are drift adjustable, oversized trigger guard, and a flat-profile trigger with integrated blade safety. Trigger features include a short, tactile reset, reduced overtravel, and approximate 5.5-pound trigger-pull weight.
The MC2sc’s 11-round magazine sits flush with the grip, and the 14-round double-stack magazine is extended below the grip. Both are constructed of coated steel and feature easy-to-remove floorplates for ease of cleaning and high-visibility followers.

FN Premieres 502 Tactical Optics-Ready 22 LR
FN America, LLC has introduced its first-ever 22 LR pistol, the FN 502 Tactical, which offers a slide-mounted red dot on a rimfire.
“We set out to make the FN 502 Tactical 22 LR pistol with the advanced features and superior accuracy of our current pistol line-up,” said Mark Cherpes, President and CEO for FN America, LLC.
The FN 502 Tactical’s optics-mounting pattern was inspired by the company’s FN Low-Profile Optics Mounting System. The single-action hammer-fired pistol offers a high-capacity 15-round magazine, a 4.6-inch barrel with recessed target-crown, and a muzzle threaded 1⁄2×28-inch pitch to accept most 22 LR suppressors.
Chris Cole, vice president for sales and marketing at FN America, LLC, said, “With an exceptional trigger, 15-round magazine, and the ability to quickly mount most micro red dots and suppressors, the FN 502 Tactical is the most capable rimfire pistol right out of the box.”
The FN 502 Tactical (pictured above) comes standard in a hard case with one 15-round high-cap magazine and one 10-round flush-fit magazine along with the necessary plates to mount compatible miniature red dot optics. Due to its similarity in ergonomics to the FN 509, the FN 502 Tactical will fit in most FN 509 Tactical holsters.
