Gun Tests evaluated the Caracal F Quick Sight 9mm, $524; and the Caracal C Quick Sight 9mm, $524; in the September 2012 issue. Of the pistols, our testers said, “Both Caracal pistols were easy to shoot. Grip angle and size afforded plenty of support. We might have preferred target sights on the F model to maximize the potential of its longer sight radius. But when it comes to a fast-action CQB pistol, it’s hard to beat the Caracal C with Quick Sights. It was like punching your fist at the target. Firing each pistol, we read little change in control from fully laden to last shot fired. The triggers might have been too light, but we liked the near vertical rest position and how easy they were to read in terms of reset. The first-shot-low syndrome may vary from pistol to pistol, but keeping the magazine fully loaded should minimize the problem.” The Model C earned a B+ grade. The Model F full-size pistol got a B grade.
Ruger Celebrates 100th Auction on GunBroker.com
Since 2010, Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. has been working with GunBroker.com to auction rare, commemorative, discontinued or one-of-a-kind Ruger firearms. On February 27, 2013, Ruger launched its 100th auction with GunBroker.com by auctioning off a Ruger M77 Hawkeye Alaskan Rifle previously owned by Ruger President and CEO Mike Fifer. All Ruger auction proceeds are donated to charity, with more than $176,000 raised thus far. This commemorative auction will benefit HAVA (Honored American Veterans Afield).
Mike Fifer used this rugged big-game rifle during a brown-bear hunt on the Alaska Peninsula in May 2010 where he killed an 8-foot 10.5-inch-long brown bear. The serial number is 710-49691, and the rollmark date is January 10, 2008. Fifer documented the hunt in a photo book, and the winning bidder will also receive an autographed copy of this book, along with the Burris scope used during the hunt and a Ruger-branded rifle case. Bids in early March were at $1825. To learn more about this special auction, visit Ruger.com/Auction.

Colorado: Sweeping Gun Control Legislation Passes Senate Committees
On March 4, despite overwhelming public opposition present, Colorado’s Senate Judiciary Committee and the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee voted to advance the most sweeping and extreme package of Second Amendment-infringing legislation in the state’s history.
-The Senate Judiciary Committee, by a 3-2 vote, advanced the following anti-gun bills:
– House Bill 1224 bans magazines with a capacity greater than 15 rounds.
Senate Bill 196 holds all manufacturers, distributors and owners of any rifle — excluding bolt-action — they produce, sell or use, liable if that gun is misused to harm another person. The definition of an “assault weapon” subject to liability in SB 196 includes a single-shot or double-barreled shotgun and any break-open rifle as well as every semi-automatic rifle and shotgun. This is a backdoor attempt at banning legal firearms and is in direct violation of the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, according to NRA-ILA.
Also by a 3-2 vote, the Senate State, Veterans, and Military Affairs Committee passed the following anti-gun bills:
-House Bill 1226 repeals current law allowing individuals with a concealed-carry permit to carry a firearm for self-defense on a college or university campus.
-House Bill 1228 imposes a “gun tax” for a background check when purchasing a firearm.
-House Bill 1229 criminalizes the private transfer of a firearm.
When asked about the outpouring number of individuals who have been showing up in Denver to oppose these anti-gun bills, Hickenlooper said, “Not only do they not represent the middle, I don’t think they represent the Republican party. I don’t think they represent a large number of people.”
