Shopping for the Heckler & Koch USP Compact Tactical USP45CT 45 ACP

The Heckler & Koch USP Compact Tactical USP45CT 45 ACP was a sexy gun tested in the January 2008 issue of Gun Tests, but it was also expensive—$1235 MSRP.

Part of that was due to the gun’s extras: The Compact Tactical USP45CT arrived in a ballistic nylon attaché case with tool kit and cleaning kit and two magazines. The gun’s price also included a longer barrel threaded for a suppressor. The Gun Tests’s team thought the package was professional and businesslike.

A check of closed auctions on GunBroker.com shows the gun selling for $850 to a high of $1100, with a few other intermediate prices, $899, $920, and $1050, appearing. We couldn’t discern any difference in the packages offered; some guns simply sold for less than others.

Currently, GunBroker.com has two auctions running for the H&K, with Jensen Arms of Loveland, Colorado, asking $1050 for a buy-now price, and Shooter’s Vault of Phoenix asking for a $1110 buy-now price, but currently no bids on Monday morning.

Caveat Emptor: In the Gun Tests evaluation, the test shooters said, “Perhaps moreso than the Glock, this gun suffered in a direct comparison with the M&P45. Shooting the guns side by side, our testers said the slim grip frame’s sharp checkering worked great with gloves, and the large slide-release and safety levers were easy to manipulate, but the small magazine-release button would be hard to work with gloves on. Our testers didn’t much like shooting the USP45C over long round counts without protection on their hands.”
