Primitive weapon deer seasons in Mississippi will become a lot less primitive if a proposed change in the definition of certain rifles receives final approval.
If it receives final approval at the Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks’s, any breech-loading, single-fire rifle of a caliber exceeding .35 caliber and having an exposed hammer will be legal during what used to be a season restricted to muzzle-loading firearms and archery equipment.
Removing a pre-1900 requirement will allow Thompson-Center Contender and Encore carbines to be used subject to caliber restrictions.
