Sometimes you have to pay to get a topnotch product, and a shotgun tested in the January 2007 issue of Gun Tests is a good example.
The winner of that test was the Benelli Super Black Eagle II No. 10016, $1515, which earned an Our Pick from the magazine’s staff.
GunBroker.com had almost two dozen Black Eagle II’s listed a day ago, with a low price of $1,050 for a used gun with a 28” barrel and factory chokes and case. The text for Auction # 108275780 said the gun “… is like new with the exception of a few scratches on the one side of the receiver as shown in the pictures. Gun is in great working condition and shot very little and is a great gun for the money.” On Tuesday, the no-reserve auction had 3 days to run and no bids.
High price was $1600 in Auction # 107982685, which was for a camo Black Eagle sold by Jensen Arms in Colorado.
In either case, Gun Tests said the Black Eagle II was a good choice for the avid shotgunner: “The latest version of the evolving Super Black Eagle design is a comfortable, ever-functional hunting gun, with the capacity to shoot 2.75-, 3-, and 3.5-inch ammunition. It won’t seize up when dirty, won’t freeze up in a goose blind, and won’t kick the snot out of the shooter with heavy payloads, thanks to the nothing-less-than-remarkable ComforTech system. The SBE II featured the highest price tag, but its performance, comfort and versatility put it on the podium’s center stand. If any shotgun is worth a mid-four digit price tag, it’s this one.”
